"The HBOT Access Act of 2021 would provide another treatment option to veterans who are deemed at high risk of suicide or self-harm. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, or HBOT, involves entering “a special chamber to breathe in pure oxygen in air pressure levels 1.5 to 3 times higher than average,” according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.
The therapy works by bringing oxygen-rich plasma to tissue that has been damaged -- therefore oxygen-deprived -- according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.
Tuberville says the science is there, and he’s seen HBOT heal brain injuries in his previous career as a football coach.
“When I was in football, there were times that a lot of these kids that had concussions come back out on the field quicker when they used these,” he said."
